Tanner lettered in high school golf, kept the same Ping carry bag, and has not hit a range ball on purpose since. He shows up with no warmup, no glove, and somehow no bogeys — until he starts caring about the wrong things, like whether the cart girl remembers his order.
He always rides. Not because he can't walk. Because somebody in the clubhouse owes him a favor, and favors at a muni are more valuable than shoes. Scruffy face, same cadence as last call. He will pure a 7-iron and then three-putt while telling a story about a regular who ordered a "beer and a prayer."
Do not ask Tanner to keep score. He will agree cheerfully and then invent a card that makes everyone feel slightly better about themselves. That is hospitality. That is also cheating. Tanner does not see the difference.
